Tasting Notes: Deep purple red color. Ripe red and darker fruit aromas, vanilla, pumpkin pie spice, clove and hints of cocoa, butterscotch and maple syrup. On the palate this wine is full bodied and slightly sweet with ripe raspberry, blackberry, Bing cherry, toast and clove and cinnamon spice with a hint of cocoa powder. The mouthfeel is soft on the entry, lush in the mid-palate and finishes long and slightly tannic to remind you it is predominantly Cabernet.

Tasting notes

Production notes
The fruit for this wine is from Obelisco Vineyard. The high density planting yields smaller berries, which contribute to the concentrated flavors. Combine this with 17 months in 50% new oak, about 2/3 American and 1/3 French, and you get a wine that seamlessly combines great fruit and oak.

Vineyard notes
: 2009 was a fairly “normal” year early on, which led to normal set. The summer had normal heat with about half the average number of days over 100 Fahrenheit, leading to earlier than usual sugar accumulation and concurrent ripening of normally separated varieties. Combine this with a hotter than normal 3rd week of September, which caused some premature shriveling, and a frost the 10th of October, and it made for a very busy first 3 weeks of September and a “crazy” last week of September and 3 weeks in October. We managed to harvest at peak maturity, which made for another great vintage
